Pau-San Haruta Marist College

Pau-San Haruta has taught professional writing for over two decades. Early in her career, she received training in crisis management and creative services at the international public relations consultancy Burson-Marsteller. Fluent in several languages, she maintains close ties with industries in the United States and Asia. Having worked as a grant writer in New York, she supervised her students’ preparation of a proposal that has raised over $150,000 for non-profits. She herself was a co-recipient of a National Science Foundation grant for the development of a Mathematics-Writing cluster. With a Ph.D. in Linguistics and research background in cognitive science, she bases her Technical Communication book on current knowledge of how people process information to help students control language and design strategically. Dr. Haruta has presented her research on writing and linguistics at international conferences and has served as a reviewer for leading journals. She also served on an editorial advisory board of a national association. She publishes her research articles under her maiden name, Pau-San Hoh. Dr. Haruta co-founded an education technology company, EduNational LLC, that delivers pioneering cognitive computing services through the cloud. Dr Haruta is an Associate Professor of English at Marist College, which has a long-standing relationship with IBM to develop innovative applications of instructional technology and IT-related entrepreneurial initiatives.
